I am a clinical social worker specializing in individual psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults. I maintain a private practice in Spartanburg, SC.
I first experienced therapy as a client during my childhood and adolescence. I was amazed by the healing power of combining a skilled therapist and a strong therapeutic relationship. The experience changed the way I thought about myself and my life. It started a process of healing and self-growth that continues to this day.
When I started Clemson University, I thought I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. During my freshman year, I took my first psychology course and knew I had found my calling. I changed my major to Psychology the beginning of my sophomore year and graduated with a BA in Psychology three years later.
After college, I took 2 years off of school, working in a variety of human service agencies. A year after I graduated, I became the sexual assault victim advocate for Safe Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition. I loved my job but realized I wanted to do more than support and advocate for my clients, I wanted to help them heal on a deeper level. I had to go back to school to achieve that goal, so enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the University of South Carolina.
After graduating from USC with my MSW, I began working as a therapist for Spartanburg Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. I had never done addiction work before and found it to be a rewarding experience. In fact, I still maintain my certification in addiction. While I worked at SADAC, I worked with a clinical supervisior toward my independent licence. This experience was richly rewarding and an incrediable learning opportunity.
I left SADAC to pursue private practice. I have maintained an office at Turning Leaves Therapy since they opened their door 10 years ago. Since that time, I have invested a tremendous amount of energy on deepening my skills and obtaining the richest, most promising training I could find. I have sought skills and techniques that would enable me to help people in the most effective and profound ways. Along the way I have gathered quite a powerful tool box and my quest continues, and I have held onto the belief that started this all: Healing power comes from the combination of skilled therapist and a strong therapeutic relationship
